Packing the right clothing ensures a comfortable and enjoyable safari. Here are the essentials:

Recommended colours

Choose natural and neutral colours such as khaki, beige, olive green and brown. These help you blend into nature and avoid attracting animals’ attention.

Clothing to bring

Light, long-sleeved shirts and pants to protect against the sun and insects.
T-shirts and shorts can be worn during the day inside the vehicle, but are less suitable in the evening or on walks.
A warm jacket or fleece: mornings can be chilly.

For hikers

If you plan on trekking (e.g., Mount Kenya or Kilimanjaro), bring:

  • -a rain jacket
  • -strong hiking shoes

Useful accessories

  • Hat or cap
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Mosquito repellent

Since January 2024, most travellers no longer require a visa. Instead, Kenya requires an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA).
Apply online through the official government portal only: https://www.etakenya.go.ke
The authorization must be obtained online before departure (no application on arrival).
Requirements for the ETA application:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months after entry, with 2 blank pages.
  • A copy of your round-trip flight reservation, accommodation confirmation, and travel itinerary.

ETA cost:

Approximately 30€ or equivalent in USD per adult.
Children under 16 years old travelling with an adult are exempt.

No compulsory vaccines are required unless you have stayed for more than 24 hours in a country at risk of Yellow Fever.
Recommended vaccines:

  • Routine vaccinations (DTP, Hepatitis B)
  • Hepatitis A
  • Typhoid
  • Malaria preventive treatment (consult your doctor)
  • Yellow Fever vaccination is recommended, but the risk in Kenya is extremely low.

Kenya operates on East Africa Time (GMT +3).

Kenya is a year-round destination, but each season offers something unique:
January to April
Green landscapes, newborn animals, excellent predator sightings.
May to mid-June (Low Season)
Rainy, but still possible to travel. Fewer tourists, quieter parks, attractive rates.
Late June to October
Peak season due to the Great Migration (July–September).
Expect higher prices and more vehicles near big cats and river crossings.
Benefits include spectacular wildlife interactions, predator hunts, and large herds.

Kenya is generally safe for solo travellers, including women, as long as basic precautions are followed.
Avoid poorly frequented areas, stay informed, and choose a reliable tour operator. Traveling with a reputable company offers peace of mind and support at all times.

Currency: Kenyan Shilling (KES)
You can exchange money at the airport, hotels, or licensed bureaus.
USD is widely accepted in tourism, followed by EUR (less common).
